STATEMENT:
After fifty years of creating paintings and sculptures, I find it challenging to pinpoint reasons behind my artistic endeavors. I could elaborate on imagining motivations however I believe it is unnecessary. I genuinely enjoy my studio time, finding pleasure in the creative process, the physicality of my craft, and its responsiveness to inspiration.
Inspiration pops up out of nowhere and will resonate through my mind until it becomes lodged. The challenge is to recognize it and be prepared for the possibility of another creative journey.
Sometimes, when I’m working on a project, something new and exciting comes to mind, and that makes me want to explore it. I’ve even stopped in the middle of a tough project to realize I’m creating two totally different things at once. That just gives me even more motivation to keep going!
Ideas have a funny way of disappearing and showing up again; they never seem to be truly lost. When I start thinking about an image, a color, a line, an edge, a composition, etc., something inside eventually me tells me when it’s time to start a new adventure.
